I am working on extending my new series based on Forton Lake and developing some more work based on the area. I have been spending a lot of time, mindfully recording what I see, what I hear and what I feel when I walk around the shores of the lake. An interesting exercise to do is drawing only what I can hear. It’s not as daft as it sounds to sit down with paper and a pencil, close your eyes and make marks for all the sounds you can hear. I found I have different marks for birds, planes, the throbbing of boat engines, and kids playing in the distance, wind on my face etc. It’s fascinating.

Whilst on one of my mindful walks yesterday, I was drawn to this glade of trees in the strong June sunshine – I could have watched these strong patterns for ages. Wonderfully relaxing!
